Hot Day, Mommy Gets Creative

This is also from a few weeks ago, but I'm slowly moving through the backlog. It was one of those crazy hot days and we were staying inside for the most part. I did want us to have some outdoor time, so I brought out the new horseshoe game I got for Georgia as a surprise.

She liked pulling the stakes in and out of the dirt most of all.

The whole thing lasted about 7 minutes.

This is what we're calling her teenager face. She's practicing. In 10 years I predict she'll be a master at it.

Sophie, on the other hand, was delighted to be outside and bouncing herself.

Later we came inside and played our new favorite game of giving Sophie toys and then taking them away.

Georgia got a tattoo from Nina at Lucy's house the day before (I will have to dig up those photos...) and here it is, still holding on. She wouldn't let us wash it off for three days. Classy.

This was in June, but here's a message from present-day Georgialand. Daddy texted me after dropping them off at school this morning:
"While we were driving G said, 'When I grow up I'm going to have my life and I'm gonna have a daughter and I'll have my daddy and I'll be the mommy and I'm gonna get married.' She also saw me counting in my head and ticking off tasks with my fingers and said, 'Are we lost?'"

Sophie, Seated

Wow, we aren't even using this sitter thing anymore...but she sure looked cute back then!

Georgia and the Ballet Bun

More from dance class. Georgia wanted a ballet bun...it started out nice enough, but she has that lovely little girl hair. The kind that slips out of every knot unless you apply hairspray, something I just cannot bring myself to do...yet.
She was happy with the results, nonetheless.

After class we post-gamed at a restaurant and Georgia ate all the olives out of our salads. That's just what she does.

And lest you think we have a totally-agreeable 3.5-year-old on our hands, this is a good insight into what we're dealing with on a daily basis.

Sophie Shows Off

I am running out of witty titles for these pages...how many ways can you say, "Sophie is so cute, let's all just look at her again!"?

Oh and on this day we called it, June 11, 2011, Sophie sits up by herself for the first time! (Yes, I know that was more than a month ago, but I'm trying to keep this blog historically accurate because it is serving as the best babybook Sophie's going to get. Historically, Sophie, you sat up on June 11. And historically, Sophie, your mom had a lot on her plate that month.)

Dancing Georgia

Watch out, you might be in for a cute overload. Georgia and the dance class!
This was our follow-up to swim class. Saturday mornings Georgia and Daddy go to dance class. Hopefully, Mommy and Sophie will show up at the end and we can meet up with some other folks for lunch and the farmer's market that takes place just outside the studio.
Daddy says Georgia follows directions really well.
She got to borrow toe shoes last week. We aren't investing in a pair for her until next year, when she will take ballet again (we couldn't get her into class in the fall. Stupid overpopulation.)
She really enjoyed the class. Particularly learning to curtsy and to make herself VERY BIG and then very small.
I want you to see this hairdo. It took some creativity. She just doesn't have enough hair for a proper bun, and it's so fine that it always falls out anyway. This was a triumph of rubberbands and fancy handiwork.

The girl opposite G is wearing the same pink bathing suit Georgia got for her birthday from Elia. G didn't make the connection...at least not that day.

When Miss Liz tells them to put sit and put their hands on their heads, she then gives them stickers. Guess who usually gets into position first? Stickers are the key to good behavior.

Sorry about that...

What a cruel joke! No posts for weeks, then a post promising all kinds of videos, but none of the videos works. I have no idea why that happened, so I've deleted that post and am trying again.

Here, Sophie has her first taste of rice cereal!
Here, Sophie is working on drinking water from a sippy.
Now, Sophie decides to feed herself. Georgia tries to help with good advice.
Sophie learns that being in the highchair can mean high fun with her very favorite person in the world - Georgia.

Pardon the Interruption

So our computer is on the fritz (aka swarming with viruses). Lucky for us, Aidan's daddy is a computer whiz and is fixing it as we speak. Pictures will be slow to come until we get it back, but I wanted to offer some updates:

-Sophie's 6 month appointment went great! She weighs 17.15lbs and is 26.25"
-We started solids on Saturday! She is not a fan of rice cereal, really likes oatmeal, and is undecided about winter squash.
-With solids came a chance to sit in the highchair finally! Sophie loves sitting at the table with all of us. Georgia is having fun with it, too. We're still not sure where the highchair should go in our tiny little dining room, but we're making due.
-Georgia started in the preschool room last week! It's called the Beanstalks and here are a few things you need to know about them: they can pour their own water to drink, they have their own potty WITH A DOOR, they take their shoes off for nap and put them under the cot to sleep (Daddy said, "Oh, just like in the Army."). Miss Valentine is WONDERFUL and Georgia alternately says she doesn't have any friends, has too many friends. Georgia is hoping that all the Cockleshells kids (the room she just left) will grow up soon and be Beanstalks with her. Sigh. She's in for a rude awakening in August when she starts an entirely new school...with uniforms...but we'll get to that later.
