This morning the whole family went to school early to meet with Georgia's teachers, Mrs. Schlegel and Mr. White. While Georgia happily showed Sophie around the play kitchen area, we learned that she is doing quite well in school so far this year. Here are a few things we heard:
-Georgia clearly presents as one of the older kids in the class
-While there is a distinct "girl group" and "boy group," Georgia is one of a few who can "easily navigate" between the two groups.
-She has a "special friendship" with Cole. They do a lot of dramatic play together.
-Her artwork always has a story behind it.
-She spends about 50 percent of free choice time in the art center.
-Other kids have seen her drawings and asked her to draw pictures on their papers. Instead, she is able to tell them how to draw the images themselves ("just draw a circle and put hands on it...").
-Her paper-cutting skills are so good that Mrs. Schlegel thought that a teacher had been cutting magazine pictures for her. She said, "I looked at it and thought, what teacher has been doing this? Oh, a teacher or Georgia!"
-She is a champ at the "no thank you" bite for lunch.
It was so great to hear so many good things about little G. I'm sure most of the conferences today are going to go in a similarly positive direction - we will have a more data-driven conversation in February, so stay tuned!
Postscript: As ever, when we were leaving the school after the conference, Sophie went boneless and threw herself on the ground in protest. She can't wait to be a big kid and play at school herself.

Post-Vacation Updates (No photos edition)
Some updates from our world (yes, photos will happen...eventually):
-Georgia likes to tell me which of her classmates did not eat their lunches, following up with, "I did not do that. I ate everything."
-Sophie now must point to all of her stuffed animals while you say their names before she will exit her crib.
-I called daddy in a frenzy between clients last night, worried that he may have forgotten to pick G up since it's not his usual night to do so. His response: "She's here. She just finished eating her chili soup. She is dressed as a veterinarian."
-Sophie has tons of molars all of the sudden. She won't let me see them much, but they are definitely there.
-The best way to get Georgia to wear something to school that she doesn't want to wear (e.g. pants or t-shirts or anything except for dresses) is to muse, "Hmm, you could probably wear this a few more times before we have to give it to Sophie."
-Sophie prefers her cereal with milk. She makes this known by holding up her bowl and saying, "MEHELLCKKK?"
-Georgia no longer enjoys it when I do a dance to distract her while she's on the potty in a public restroom. Her exact quote, "I do not know what that dance is supposed to be. I do not like watching it."
-Sophie is done with the changing table. She really just doesn't want you to change her diaper at all, ever, anywhere, but definitely don't try to do it on the changing table because she will fling herself off of it, fish-on-a-deck style.
-Georgia likes to play hide-and-seek before school. Her hiding places are: under the kitchen table, under the dining room table, and behind the coat rack.
-Sophie is off the bottle. No drama, we just didn't use it while we were at the beach and she's fine. Hizzah!
