That Diva Behavior

Just some documenting of G's diva behavior. See how she won't even look at the camera? What a team player.

Here, Sophie comes to visit G in bed - a favorite early morning pastime.

In the car...

This afternoon on the way home from school:
Georgia: Mommy, we are strangers to other people.
Me: Did you learn that in school?
Georgia: No. I learned that in my life.

In the car...

On the way to school today Georgia asked me to tell her a "princess story," something that happens from time to time. She has a few stipulations. First, there must be two princesses, named Georgia and Sophie. Second, "you have to make it up in your head when you are telling it." In other words, no plagiarism. I usually try to get her involved in the story ("And the princesses lived in a castle surrounded by what?"), not because I'm engaging with her developmentally appropriate skill for storytelling, but because I'm just not that creative.

This morning's story involved the princesses living in a castle on a rainbow and concluded with them sharing three wishes. Here were Georgia's chosen wishes:

1. More princesses! We named them Avery and Ellie, btw.
2. A purple bus.
3. Flowers in the bus.

I'd just like to mark this moment as happening before she has learned the "wish for unlimited wishes" cliche. In her purest heart, she really wanted flowers in a purple bus and other princesses to share them with. I love getting to know this four-year-old.

4th Birthday Posts Part 4

Because G was sick on her birthday, we had to postpone her at-school party. Lucky for me, the rule is that you have to bring store-bought items to all school parties, so I didn't have to make cupcakes again. Georgia specifically asked for Pinkalicious cupcakes for the girls and Spiderman for the boys. When asked, why Spiderman? Her answer was a deadpan "Because Dion loves Spiderman." Dion is the sweetest boy in her class, so I totally get her logic.

Miss Jones was happy to help hand out the cupcakes.

G was happy to have another Pinkalicious ring to wear.

She got to wear the coveted birthday crown.

Another thing you have to have for school birthday parties? Goodie bags. This is all Dion's mommy's fault, since Dion's birthday was a week before G's. She kept asking, what's going to be in our goodie bags? Sigh. We're now at the peer pressure point.

So her goodie bags had glow-in-the-dark bracelets. Here they are, glowing.

4th Birthday Posts Part 3

Here are some from the "family birthday celebration." Georgia now believes your birthday takes five whole days to celebrate. Maybe it actually does take that long? Sophie was showing us her pulling up skills.

4th Birthday Posts Part 2

It was...can you guess? A Pinkalicious party. Pinkalicious is a real thing.

At first, when she asked for a Pinkalicious party, I thought, "Wow! That's so much less stereotypical than a Disney princess party! My daughter is a free thinker!" What I didn't realize is that you can find Disney princess-themed junk everywhere (everywhere - just look around the grocery checkout the next time you're there). Guess what you can't find everywhere? "Pinkalicious cupcake topper rings."

In other words, I'm a magician (or just a magician's daughter) because I was able to find these things that were the key to the cupcake design. We also made bead necklaces and it was NOT a total disaster!

This party was low key, compared to last year's crowded insanity experiment. We invited five other little girls - no boys - and I told the moms, "You are welcome to stay, but I don't want to see your husband or your other baby." I actually did say this. Last year we had six moms nursing on our couch at one time. The entryway looked like a carseat showroom. We just couldn't deal with that again this year. This house was not made for two winter birthday kids, but I digress.

Georgia chose the refreshments - popcorn, naturally.

At one point, Georgia said in a total stage voice, "EXCUSE ME I HAVE AN ANNOUNCEMENT! IT'S TIME TO GO LOOK AT THE CUPCAKES!" She was thrilled to have a captive audience.

Sophie and daddy made a brief appearance before heading to a coffee shop.

Later they played Pinkalicious bingo (also a real thing, I found for free online - there are people out there with tons of free time, and no fear of copyright infringement, apparently).

We have Lucy, Abigail, Georgia, LilyS and Elia. Flo must be off somewhere...

This was the only photo we could get of G with me that day. Let's just say, she went all diva on us. It was a great time and I was so proud of how well she dealt with having so many other kids touching her toys. We're working on the whole sharing thing.

4th Birthday Posts Part 1

G was actually sick the weekend of her 4th birthday. But that did not deter us from having her presents ready on the morning of Feb 3.

She was quite pleased with her vanity - which she keeps calling her "van."
